DHAKA, Bangladesh, November 4, 2026 – Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman today urged the international community to step up diplomatic engagement and financial support to create conditions for the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

Rahman made the remarks on 17 April while speaking as a panelist at a session titled “Global Refugee Protection System in the Face of Displacement Crisis” at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2026 in Türkiye.

He said durable solutions must be pursued to the protracted Rohingya crisis in Rakhine State and conditions must be demonstrated to be conducive to safe, voluntary and dignified returns for displaced Rohingya.

“The international community must move beyond humanitarian assistance and take a more initiative-taking, purposeful approach to creating favorable conditions for repatriation,” Rahman said.

He called for increased funding and continued engagement to improve stability and security in Rakhine and urged urgent action to protect human rights, expressing concern about declining international donor support.

The foreign minister also noted that both Myanmar’s government and the Arakan Army had welcomed him since he assumed office.

He described the Rohingya crisis as solvable but stressed that a resolution would require a coordinated global approach and sustained international cooperation.

Rahman reiterated that safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation remains central to a lasting solution to the crisis.
