Ukhiya, Bangladesh—Bangladesh police detained two Rohingya brothers during a nighttime raid at a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, seizing two locally made firearms and ammunition, police said.
The 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBn) carried out the operation between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Monday, October 12, at Block C-5 of Camp 2 (West) in Ukhiya.
Voice7 News reported that the detainees were identified as Mohammad Faisal, 21, and his elder brother, Robiul Alam, 23, both residents of the camp block.
Police said they recovered two locally made single-shot guns, four rounds of ammunition, and two shotgun cartridges from the brothers’ residence.
Additional Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Siraj Amin, commander of the 14th APBn, confirmed the operation, saying officers had acted on a tip-off.
According to the police official, Faisal was allegedly associated with the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), an armed group operating in the region. The allegation was attributed to the authorities and has not been independently verified.
The two men were taken to the police camp following their detention. Siraj Amin said legal proceedings were underway.
